BIOGRAPHY
What does a quilt magazine editor of 20 years do after she "retires"? Makes quilts, of course!
I studied textiles and fine arts in college when it was considered an "odd" combination. The art department wanted me to quit all that "home ec stuff" and the textiles design department wanted me to concentrate all my efforts on textile design. Quilting has allowed me to do both.
In the past year I have had a fantastic time designing and sewing quilts. It is always what I intended to do and now that those plans have given me a rewarding new direction. My art training provides the background to design quilts in any style from sweetly romantic to bold and contemporary. Like most quilters, the fabric always tells me what to do. If you let the fabric speak, the design ideas will flow.
I thoroughly enjoy creating virtual quilts using Adobe Photoshop and scanned fabrics from the newest collections available. I design for a dozen fabric companies at present and always welcome new commissions. Creating virtual quilts is one way I can "make" all the quilts I have stuffed up in my head. I am especially excited when I actually get to sew some of them. Life is good.
Here is a gallery of my virtual quilts and my real, in the fabric, quilts. Can you tell the difference?
